Not at all. The tour is designed for both experienced photographers and enthusiastic beginners who want to improve in the field. Guidance is available throughout the trip, and the small group format makes it easy to adapt advice to each participant’s level.

Do I need professional camera gear to enjoy the tour?

No. A professional setup can help in certain situations, especially for birds in flight, but it is not essential to enjoy the experience. A mirrorless or DSLR camera with a telephoto lens is ideal, while guests who are mainly interested in birdwatching can also participate with binoculars and a lighter camera.

How physically demanding is the tour?

The tour is rated easy. Most of the time is spent on the boat, with only short walks and simple transfers on land. Early mornings are part of the experience, but overall the tour is comfortable and suitable for most guests with a normal level of mobility.

How much time do we spend on the boat each day?

Most days include two main field sessions: an early-morning session and an afternoon/evening session. Between sessions, there is time for breakfast, rest, reviewing images, or simply enjoying the quiet rhythm of the Delta. The program remains flexible and adapts to light and wildlife activity.

What happens if the weather is not good or bird activity is slow?

Weather and wildlife are always part of real nature travel, so no exact sightings can ever be guaranteed. However, the itinerary is flexible, and routes are adapted in real time based on wind, light, water conditions, and bird behaviour to maximize opportunities while keeping the experience ethical and enjoyable.

What clothing should I pack?

May to early July is typically warm to hot (often 27–33°C during the day). Bring layers for cool pre-dawn starts, plus sun protection for Dobrogea and a windproof jacket for fast boat rides in the Delta. Insect repellent is recommended.

Can I rent equipment during the tour?

Yes. We have a small selection of Canon-compatible gear available for rent during the tour, subject to availability. Please request it in advance so we can reserve it.

Can I rent camera gear for this tour?

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Tulcea and transfer to the Danube Delta
Meet the group at Tulcea Harbour – “Ivan Patzaichin” Promenade at 3:00 PM.

We start by boat along rivers and channels to our base near Maliuc/Mila 23 — a traditional water-only village in the heart of the wetlands — and we enjoy our first wildlife photo session.

On the way, you already get a first taste of the Delta: fishermen, reedbeds, herons, and perhaps your first pelicans gliding low over the water.

Check-in, dinner, tour briefing, and an overview of the days ahead.
Days 2–4 – Danube Delta: 3 full days of birds & wildlife photography
Three full days (plus an extra morning) dedicated almost entirely to bird and wildlife photography in one of Europe’s richest wetlands — the Danube Delta, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve known for exceptional biodiversity.

Each day:
- Pre-sunrise departure to be in position when the first light hits the water
- Slow, ethical navigation through channels, lakes, and reedbeds, reading signs of activity and adapting the route in real time
- Return late morning for breakfast and rest.
- Afternoon/evening session starting about 4 hours before sunset, exploring new areas or revisiting productive spots.
Targets include:
- Pelicans (White & Dalmatian)
- Egrets, herons, ibises, spoonbills
- Kingfishers, terns, gulls, waders
- White-tailed Eagles and other raptors
- Otters, wild boars, roe deer, muskrats, raccoon dogs (with luck)
After dinner, optional image review and discussion — settings, composition, fieldcraft — in a relaxed atmosphere perfect for improving your wildlife photography skills.
Day 5 – Last Delta session and transfer to Tulcea
We enjoy a last morning photo session in the Danube Delta, often in beautiful soft light on the way back to Tulcea. Keep your camera ready — some of the best encounters happen when you least expect them.

Around midday, we arrive in Tulcea, where our tour ends.

You leave with memory cards full of images — and, more importantly, with a deeper connection to the Danube Delta and its wild inhabitants.
Optional drone photography
During this tour, we visit several areas that look incredible from above: labyrinths of channels, patchwork lakes, reedbeds, dunes, and dry hills. These landscapes of the Danube Delta offer exceptional opportunities for drone photography, especially during sunrise and sunset.

If you fly a drone, you are welcome to bring it. There will be suitable windows for safe and legal flying, away from sensitive species and busy airspace, always respecting ethical guidelines and wildlife behaviour.

Please mention your drone in the booking form so we can advise you on the best moments and locations.

Note: You need a valid European permit to use a drone, but it is easy to obtain if you don’t already have one.

Photographic activities

Every session is carefully planned around subject, background, and light. We maintain a calm, flexible pace, returning to the strongest locations under optimal conditions. The aim is a diverse portfolio: portraits, flight shots, birds thriving in their habitats, occasional mammals, landscapes, and small details that narrate the distinctive story of this region.

Easy to moderate. No demanding hikes. Early mornings are part of the experience, and we spend extended time outdoors (wind, sun, or light rain).
